Forest Green Rovers have added two new midfielders to their squad, securing Preston Fearon on a one-month loan from West Ham United and signing Adeteye Gbadehan to a permanent one-year deal. The double move provides manager Robbie Savage with fresh options as his side sits eighth in the National League with 13 points from eight games, a position they hold after scoring 14 goals and conceding 12 so far this season.
Fearon arrives from West Ham
Fearon, a 19-year-old who has made over 70 appearances for West Ham's academy sides, joins for an initial month. He scored seven goals and provided one assist in 20 Premier League 2 appearances last season and has one cap for England's under-20 side, making his debut against Italy in March. Savage is confident the youngster will make an immediate impact.
"He'll be great for us over the next one to three months," Savage said. "He'll bring energy, he'll bring creativity, he'll bring skill, he'll bring work ethic, so we're delighted to have him and once again one of the best young players in the country. He's played for England under 20s, has chosen Forest Green for his first senior destination. He's a player we've tracked for a while and we think he can help us in the final third."
Gbadehan signs after trial
The second addition is 22-year-old Adeteye Gbadehan, a versatile midfielder who has signed a one-year contract after a successful trial. He made 14 appearances last season for MLS Next Pro side St Louis Two. Gbadehan, who can also operate in defence, expressed his excitement at joining the club.
"I'm absolutely buzzing to be here," Gbadehan said. "The lads, the gaffer and the staff have been great since I arrived."
Squad depth for the campaign
The new signings arrive during a mixed run of form for Forest Green, whose last five results show two wins, one draw and two defeats. They followed a 4-0 victory over Gateshead with a 1-1 draw at Carlisle last time out. Savage will hope the midfield reinforcements can help provide more consistency as the season progresses, with the club targeting a return to the Football League. The manager confirmed the club is still working within a strict budget but believes these additions improve the squad's quality. Gbadehan's contract runs until the end of the 2026-27 campaign.
