Forest Green Rovers must now win a replay to progress in the FA Cup after being held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Chesham United in the fourth qualifying round. Josh Bowen's side dominated possession and created numerous chances at The Meadow but were repeatedly denied by a resilient Chesham defence and goalkeeper Ben Goode.

The stalemate in Buckinghamshire means the tie will be decided at The New Lawn on Tuesday night. Forest Green, currently 16th in the National League with 15 points from 12 games, viewed the cup as a chance to build momentum after a difficult league run. They have won just once in their last five matches across all competitions.

Chances go begging

Forest Green grew into the game after a scrappy opening, with Kelvin Abrefa firing an early effort wide. Kyle Kelly had the best opportunity of the first half, but his effort was saved by Goode. The pressure intensified after the break, with Sean Etaluku hitting the post and then the side netting with two quick chances. Substitute Nick Haughton added energy after coming on for D'mani Mellor on the hour mark, and Jayden Clarke was denied by another Goode stop in stoppage time.

Bowen praised his team's defensive solidity, which provided a positive after recent high-scoring defeats. "We've restricted them to literally nothing," the manager said. "Long balls, second balls, we didn't give them a sniff. Luke was basically a bystander in goal." He acknowledged the challenge posed by a motivated non-league opponent, describing the match as "life or death for them" and "their cup final".

Final third frustration

Despite the clean sheet, Bowen was critical of his team's decision-making in attack. "Maybe in those final third areas, key details, we created some really good chances on another day," he said. "We're a goal scoring team." He insisted the team would "go all out" in the replay to secure a "big win" for the group's morale.

The replay offers a swift chance for redemption before attention returns to the league and a trip to face eighth-placed Barrow next Saturday. An attendance of 1,052 at Chesham observed a minute's silence before kick-off for former club majority shareholder Roger Payne, who died last Thursday.
