Forest Green Rovers are set to operate without a manager for the foreseeable future following the departure of Robbie Savage. Chairman Dale Vince confirmed the radical approach, stating the club will see how a three-man coaching team performs in the role.

Savage left the club last week to take over at League One side Peterborough United, ending a tenure that began at the start of the 2025-26 season. In response, Vince has decided against an immediate replacement. "Nobody’s in the frame, nobody’s connected to the job, at the minute there’s no vacancy," he said. "At the moment, we’re going to try something new, we’re going to see how it goes and we’ll see where it goes."

Who is in charge now

Coaches Josh Bowen, Yan Klukowski and Jonathan Gould have taken temporary charge. Vince highlighted their collective experience, which includes Premier League and Championship levels. Jonathan Gould, a former top-flight goalkeeper, is the son of 1988 FA Cup-winning manager Bobby Gould. The trio were in the dugout for Saturday's 4-2 home defeat to Hartlepool United, a result that extended Forest Green's winless run to five matches.

Current struggles

The club's form is a pressing concern. They sit 16th in the National League table with 15 points from 12 games, just three points above the relegation places. Their recent form reads LDDLD, with the heavy loss to Hartlepool a particular low point.

Vince, who has owned the club since 2010, suggested the experiment could last for a few games or a month. The immediate focus is on halting the slide, with the squad preparing for their next league match away to Barrow on 24 October. The Gloucestershire club will first aim to turn their fortunes around this Saturday in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round against Chesham United.
