Forest Green owner Dale Vince has launched a £2 million lawsuit against Peterborough United over the appointment of former manager Robbie Savage. Vince alleges Peterborough made an illegal approach for Savage after he initially refused them permission to speak to the manager.
Vince confirmed the legal action on his personal social media channel, stating a buy-out clause was circumvented. The dispute centres on Savage's move to Peterborough at the start of October, which Vince claims breached contract terms. Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has firmly rejected the allegations.
Savage's departure and record
Robbie Savage left Forest Green on 2 October after 15 months in charge, having guided the club to the National League play-offs last season before a defeat to Boreham Wood. He departed with the team 13th after 11 matches. At Peterborough, his start has been mixed, with two wins, two draws, and two losses in all competitions, leaving the club in League One's relegation places.
While this legal battle unfolds off the pitch, Forest Green's focus on it remains. The team currently sits 16th in the National League with 19 points from 14 games, following a recent 2-2 draw with Harrogate Town. Their next challenge is a trip to face 12th-placed Woking on 14 November, a fixture that will be important for their push up the standings. Their record of five wins, four draws, and five defeats leaves them 25 points behind leaders Boreham Wood. The team's recent form shows two wins, two draws, and one loss from their last five matches, a sequence that included a 2-0 victory over Eastleigh and a 5-0 thrashing of Chesham United, but also a 1-0 loss to Barrow. In the 2-2 draw with Harrogate Town, goals came from N. Kengni and K. Kelly, while Will Grigg and F. Mabete scored in the win against Eastleigh. With 23 goals scored and 24 conceded this season, improving the goal difference will be another target for the squad.
